Insect borne plant virus diseases are an important factor affecting crop yield and agricultural product quality, posing a serious threat to China's food security and sustainable agricultural development. Our laboratory mainly focuses on the folllowing studies including: The complex interaction among barley yellow stripe mosaic virus (BYSMV), a plant rhabdovirus, with its host plants (wheat and corn) and its planthopper vector; The molecular mechanisms of infection and defense between cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and host plants; We engineered barley yellow striate mosaic virus (BYSMV) into a negative-strand RNA virus-based vector system for delivery of both Cas9 and single guide RNA to achieve heritable gene editing in different wheat cultivars.
